The top of a pizza box — the lid — is almost always clean and is accepted in BC blue box recycling. The base that contacts the food may be grease-soaked and is typically not accepted in recycling; it goes in the compost or garbage. Using a paper plate liner keeps the base cleaner and can improve recyclability of the full box. Check your municipality's specific guidelines.
